*How it works*:  

You get Rs.1 in your account. Then a call comes.  

`Sir, I sent 10,000 by mistake to you. Please return. Scan this QR to send back.`

You scan the QR and enter UPI PIN. But instead of getting money, your money goes OUT.

*Red Flags*: 

– Unknown person asking to return money

– Asking you to scan QR and enter PIN

– Creating urgency

*What To Do*: 

To receive money, you never need to enter PIN. If it asks for PIN, it’s a scam. Block the number.

*Fraud 2: Fake QR Code at Shops and Online*

 

*How it works*:

You go to buy vegetables. Shopkeeper shows a QR code. You scan and pay 200. 

But that QR is not for payment. It’s a “Request Money” QR. When you enter PIN, 200 goes from your account to scammer.

Online also same. Fake bill QR is sent.

*Red Flags*:

– QR code pasted over original QR

– Name on screen does not match shop name

– Asking to pay fast

*What To Do*: 

Before entering PIN, always check top of screen. It should say `You are paying to: Ramesh Shop`. If it says `Requesting from you`, cancel it.

 *Fraud 3: Fake Customer Care Call Scam*

*How it works*:  

`Hello Sir, I am calling from GPay Customer Care. Your account will be blocked. Install this AnyDesk app so I can help.`

Once you install and share screen, they see your UPI PIN and OTP. In 2 minutes your account is empty.

*Red Flags*:

– Asking to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer

– Asking for screen share

– Asking for UPI PIN

*What To Do*: 

Real bank and GPay never call you. Never install apps for strangers. Cut the call.

 *Fraud 4: Prize, Cashback and Refund Link Scam*

*How it works*:  

`Congratulations! You won 5000 cashback from IRCTC. Click link and enter UPI PIN to claim: irctc-cashback.net`

The link opens a fake page. You enter UPI PIN and all money is gone.

*Red Flags*:

– You did not play any lottery

– Link is not official website

– Asking for UPI PIN on website

*What To Do*: 

Never click links in SMS or WhatsApp. Open app directly and check.

 *Fraud 5: OTP for UPI PIN Change Scam*

*How it works*:  

`Your UPI PIN will expire today. Share this OTP to update and continue using UPI.`

If you share OTP, scammer changes your UPI PIN. Then they can send all your money.

*Red Flags*:

– Asking for OTP

– Saying PIN will expire

– Threat of account block

*What To Do*: 

OTP is like house key. Never share with anyone. Not even bank.

7 Golden Rules

Follow these 7 rules. Your money will be 100% safe.

 

*Rule 1: UPI PIN is Secret. Never Tell Anyone*  

UPI PIN is same as ATM PIN. PhonePe, Google Pay, Bank will NEVER ask for it on call or message. If someone asks, it’s fraud.

*Rule 2: To Receive Money, No PIN is Needed*  

Remember this. If someone is sending you money, you just click “Accept”. If it asks for PIN, cancel it. Money is going out.

*Rule 3: Always Check Name Before Paying*  

After scanning QR, check the name carefully. Is it “Amma Medicals”? Or some random name? If name is wrong, don’t pay.

*Rule 4: Never Install Apps for Strangers*  

If someone says “Install AnyDesk, I will help”, cut the call. This is the #1 way scammers steal money.

*Rule 5: Set a Daily UPI Limit*  

Go to GPay > Profile > Bank Accounts > Set UPI Limit. Keep it 5000 or 10000. So even if scammed, full savings won’t go.

*Rule 6: Check Bank SMS Every Time*  

After every UPI payment, bank sends SMS. Read it. Check amount and who got the money. If wrong, call bank fast.

*Rule 7: If You Get Scammed, Act in 10 Minutes*  

Step 1: Call your bank and block UPI  

Step 2: Call Cyber Helpline *1930*  

Step 3: File complaint at *cybercrime.gov.in*  

First 24 hours are very important to get money back.

*3 Important UPI Settings Every Senior Must Turn On Now*

1.  *App Lock*:

Settings > App Lock > Use Fingerprint. So no one can open your GPay.

2.  *SMS Alert*:

Turn on SMS alert for every transaction in your bank app.
