But that keypad is fake. It records your PIN and sends to scammer. At same time they clone your card.
Red Flags:
– Keypad is loose or moves when you press
– ATM looks old and no guard
– Color of keypad is different
Fraud 2: “Helpful Stranger” Scam
How it works:

`Ayya, your card is stuck. I will help.` A stranger comes. He presses cancel and swaps your real card with fake card.
You go home and check. Money is gone.
Red Flags:
– Anyone offering help inside ATM
– Card comes out very slow
– ATM door not closing properly
Fraud 3: Card Trapping Device
How it works:
You insert card. ATM shows “Transaction Failed”. Card does not come out.
You leave and go to bank. Scammer comes with tool, takes your card, and uses PIN which they saw from camera.
Red Flags:
– Card stuck message
– No bank slip coming
– Camera above PIN pad
Fraud 4: Fake SMS “Card Blocked”

How it works:
`Your ATM Card is blocked. Click link and enter card number + CVV + OTP to unblock: sbi-card.net`
This is phishing. If you enter, they can do online shopping with your card.
Red Flags:
– Link is not official bank website
– Asking for CVV and OTP
– Threat of blockin
8 Golden Rules for ATM Safety Every Senior Must Follow in 2026

Follow these 8 rules. Your card and money will be 100% safe.
Rule 1: Always Cover Keypad with Hand
Enter PIN. Always use other hand to cover. So camera cannot see. This is the #1 rule.
Rule 2: Check ATM Before Using
Pull the card slot. Pull the keypad. If anything moves, don’t use. Go to another ATM. Use ATM inside bank with guard.
Rule 3: Never Take Help from Strangers
If card stuck or problem, press `CANCEL`. Call bank number on ATM. Never ask help from people standing there.
Rule 4: Use Only Bank ATM in Daytime
Avoid lonely ATM at night. Use ATM inside bank branch between 10AM to 4PM. It’s safer.
Rule 5: Enable SMS Alert for Every Transaction

3 Important ATM Settings Every Senior Must Do Now
1. Turn Off International Use:
Ask bank to block international ATM use. Most fraud happens outside India.
2. Turn On Transaction SMS:

What To Do If Your ATM Card Is Cloned? 5 Emergency Steps
If you think your card is cloned, don’t panic. Do these 5 steps in next 10 minutes.
Step 1: Block Card Immediately
Call your bank toll-free number. It is printed behind your card. Say “Block my debit card”. Or use your bank app: Login > Cards > Block Card > Confirm. Card will be blocked in 30 seconds.
Step 2: Check Last 3 Transactions
Open SMS inbox. See last 3 ATM transactions. Note time and amount. If you see transaction you did not do, write it in paper.
Step 3: Call Cyber Crime 1930
This is Indian Government cyber helpline. Dial 1930 from any phone. Tell them “My ATM card cloned, money deducted”. They will give complaint number. This number is very important to get money back.
Step 4: Go To Your Home Branch
Next morning 10 AM, go to your bank branch with Aadhar card, passbook, and complaint number. Meet manager. Give written complaint. Ask for new card.
Step 5: Check and Change
After 2 days, check if bank reversed your money. Also change your UPI PIN and Net Banking password. Because if scammer has card data, they may try UPI also.
Remember: RBI says if you report fraud within 3 days, you will get full money back. So speed is important.
